New! 9/21/13 Shrine Parade
This was not your ordinary parade. The Shriners have 22 Childrens' Hospitals all over the country, offering free treatment to children with serious burns and other medical conditions.
The group, comprised of seven states from Georgia to West Virginia and Tennessee, celebrated its fall gathering in Myrtle Beach for about the 20th time since 1974. The events cover a four-day period and features golf, live entertainment, and other fund-raising events. It culminates with the parade that attracts all ages.
Although the Shriners are known for their parades, fez hats and funny little cars, they have a very a serious purpose: raising money for their 22 children's hospitals. This year's events were expected to total about $250,000 for the hospitals.
